Driver Joe’s

We need a fast solution to solving the epidemic of ‘Food Deserts,’ but there is no such thing as a ‘fast solution’ for this. In the meantime, we will use an all-hands-on-deck effort to bring the healthy foods, themselves, to those who need it.

As a community, we need to do something and ‘it’ can’t wait.

What’s the Idea?

Grocery Delivery Service App

  • Partnership with Driver’s Ed. Schools in the Twin Cities-Metro Area

  • While completing driving lessons/hours, teen drivers (with instructors or parents present) can pick up Trader Joe’s orders and drive them to our customers (residing in North Minneapolis).

  • Allows the low-income population in North Minneapolis’ food desert, access healthy AND cheap groceries with NO delivery fees.

In This Program…

TEENS who participate in the program will get a discount on their Driver’s Ed. class tuition.

HOURS spent on delivery orders may be counted as:

  • Required driving hours (in Driver’s Education Classes)

  • ‘Volunteer/Service Hours’ (to include on college applications or in Community Service Programs)

This App Will…

ONLY Send Orders to Trader Joe’s Stores

  • WHY: Our customers will be ensured the food they are purchasing is healthy and good for them and their families.

BE OPERATED by Driver’s Ed Instructors

  • + the student drivers apart of the ‘Driver Joe’s’ Program will have access when they are and are not driving.

BENEFIT Student Drivers

  • Drivers will be assisted by a feature to track the amount of time spent on each drive/delivery.

Partnership with Drivers Ed Programs in North Minneapolis

Sane Lane Driving & Safari Driving School

The app connects the student drivers to community members who place orders at Trader Joe’s. The drivers’ hours will be tracked through the app and will primarily be operated by the instructors, which allows for a safe and beneficial driving experience for students and app users
